The Balloon
Built in 2018, Blue Moon is a Kubíček BB22XR “racer” style hot air balloon. The balloon was built by local Utah pilot Don Stockley. The design inspired by iconic “Moonshine” balloon, and sharing the beautiful moon parachute top design. The envelope holds 77,000 cubic feet of air. The balloon carries 44 gallons of propane enough to stay aloft for two hours. The basket carries the pilot plus up to three flight crew or passengers.
The Pilot
Zack Clark is a FAA-licensed commercial hot air balloon pilot living in Salt Lake City. He attended his first hot air balloon event in Park City in the early 1990s after moving to Utah.
In the 2000s he fell in love with the sport again after attending the Park City Autumn Aloft with his friends who are balloon pilots and enthusiasts in the area.
From there, his passion for flying took off.
In November 2019 with the support of his wife Amie and the encouragement of his two kids (Ashton and Sloan), Zack purchased his first balloon, and “Blue Moon Balloon” was born.

“It’s so graceful to be blown by the wind, to go where the wind takes you. Just drifting over beautiful rivers in a balloon is perfect.”
— Richard Branson
“I love the majesty and beauty of balloons and the smile they bring to people’s faces. Why do I love the ‘game’ of flying balloons? Lots of reasons. Reading the wind. Attempting to fly a plan. Strategy. Art. Skill. Quickly moving to plan B as conditions evolve. A bit of luck. All these things combine in a single great adventure of ballooning. I took one ride and I was hooked.”
—Zack Clark
